In service, this compression packing is cut into rings and stacked in a stuffing box, then compressed by the gland to seal a rotating or reciprocating shaft. The catalog record notes: 10 LB. Carbon Filament/TFE is widely chosen for near-universal chemical inertness and excellent dielectric properties. It resists solvents, strong acids and bases, and nearly all industrial chemicals. It is not the right choice where service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals are present.
