The material holds up against weathering, many petroleum products, and general atmospheric corrosion. Aluminum is known for economical cost per connection and a high strength-to-weight ratio that eases handling of large sizes. It should not be specified for service in prolonged salt water immersion or galvanic pairing with dissimilar metals.
