As a material, Borosilicate gauge glass is specified for annealed for consistent strength and clear, direct visual indication of liquid level. The compound resists chemical attack from water and steam, thermal shock, and internal pressure. Exposure to abrasive cleaning or mechanical impact will shorten service life.

It sees regular use in food and beverage processing, boilers and steam drums, and process tanks and vessels.
