APG stocks the 0297500, a black Viton® (FKM) 75 Shore A Square-Cut Cord Stock built to a cross section of 0.5 in (12.7 mm). A square-cut cord stock lets you fabricate a square-cut seal to any circumference without a special tooling charge.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit. The material holds up against engine and transmission fluids, aggressive chemicals, and many acids. Applications involving low-molecular-weight organic acids or ketones and esters call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
