Ordered as SH70003, this is an AS568-003 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring with an inside diameter of 0.056 in (1.42 mm), a cross section of 0.06 in (1.52 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.176 in (4.47 mm). The square-cut ring offers greater contact area against the gland wall than an equivalent o-ring.

Buna-N (Nitrile) is valued for strong abrasion and tear resistance, an economical choice for high-volume maintenance programs. Expect good resistance to greases and lubricants, propane and butane, and petroleum-based oils. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving strong acids or polar solvents call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
