This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-003 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A with an inside diameter of 0.056 in (1.42 mm), a cross section of 0.06 in (1.52 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.176 in (4.47 mm), catalogued under part number SV70003. It resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.
It resists many acids, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated solvents. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for very low compression set at elevated temperature and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. Applications involving hot water and steam or ketones and esters call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
Typical settings include high-temperature process equipment, oil and gas, and aerospace.
SV70003 ships individually. Nominal inside diameter is listed as 1/16 inch. Check the compound against your process media, pressure and temperature before committing to a design. Not finding the exact configuration you need? APG cross-references from prints, samples and competitor part numbers.
