Part number SV70104 is an AS568-104 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring measuring an inside diameter of 0.112 in (2.84 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.318 in (8.08 mm). A square-cut ring resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.
As a material, Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for very low compression set at elevated temperature and the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit. The material holds up against chlorinated solvents, aggressive chemicals, and many acids. Continuous operating temperature is published at -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where amines or low-molecular-weight organic acids are present. The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
It sees regular use in aerospace, automotive fuel systems, and oil and gas.
