568-106 BUNA 70 SQUARE CUT RINGS

SH70106 is an AS568-106 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 0.174 in (4.42 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.38 in (9.65 mm). In service, this square-cut ring resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.

It resists propane and butane, greases and lubricants, and water. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is specified for the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer and low compression set under sustained load. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). It is not the right choice where automotive brake fluid or polar solvents are present. The profile itself contributes a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
