568-149 FKM 75 SQUARE CUT RINGS

This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-149 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A with an inside diameter of 2.8 in (71.12 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 3.006 in (76.35 mm), catalogued under part number SV70149. It resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. It resists aromatic hydrocarbons, many acids, and petroleum oils and fuels. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where amines or hot water and steam are present. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
