Part number SV70159 is an AS568-159 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring built to an inside diameter of 4.987 in (126.67 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 5.193 in (131.9 mm). A square-cut ring seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. Expect good resistance to engine and transmission fluids, aromatic hydrocarbons, and aggressive chemicals. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). Applications involving low-molecular-weight organic acids or hot water and steam call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
