APG stocks the SV70165, an AS568-165 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring measuring an inside diameter of 6.487 in (164.77 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 6.693 in (170 mm). A square-cut ring offers greater contact area against the gland wall than an equivalent o-ring.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for very low compression set at elevated temperature and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. The compound resists aromatic hydrocarbons, many acids, and chlorinated solvents. Service temperature is rated from -15°F (-26.1°C) through 400°F (204.4°C). Verify compatibility before use with ketones and esters or amines. The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
