568-172 FKM 75 SQUARE CUT RINGS

SV70172 is an AS568-172 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 8.237 in (209.22 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 8.443 in (214.45 mm). In service, this square-cut ring offers greater contact area against the gland wall than an equivalent o-ring.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) is valued for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and outstanding high-temperature capability. The material holds up against engine and transmission fluids, aromatic hydrocarbons, and many acids. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. Exposure to hot water and steam or amines will shorten service life. The profile itself contributes a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
