568-173 FKM 75 SQUARE CUT RINGS

APG stocks the SV70173, an AS568-173 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring built to an inside diameter of 8.487 in (215.57 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 8.693 in (220.8 mm). A square-cut ring offers greater contact area against the gland wall than an equivalent o-ring.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) is known for excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, very low compression set at elevated temperature. Expect good resistance to aromatic hydrocarbons, engine and transmission fluids, and aggressive chemicals. Continuous operating temperature is published at -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
