This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-177 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A built to an inside diameter of 9.487 in (240.97 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 9.693 in (246.2 mm), catalogued under part number SV70177. It seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. This material stands up to engine and transmission fluids, aggressive chemicals, and petroleum oils and fuels. Service temperature is rated from -15°F (-26.1°C) through 400°F (204.4°C). Applications involving ketones and esters or hot water and steam call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
