This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-210 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A supplied with an inside diameter of 0.734 in (18.64 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.012 in (25.7 mm), catalogued under part number SV70210. It seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

It resists chlorinated solvents, aromatic hydrocarbons, and engine and transmission fluids. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) offers long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. The material carries a published service range of -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). Exposure to amines or ketones and esters will shorten service life. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
