SV70214 is an AS568-214 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 0.984 in (24.99 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.262 in (32.05 mm). In service, this square-cut ring seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for outstanding high-temperature capability, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. This material stands up to many acids, petroleum oils and fuels, and aggressive chemicals. Service temperature is rated from -15°F (-26.1°C) through 400°F (204.4°C). Exposure to hot water and steam or low-molecular-weight organic acids will shorten service life. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.

Typical settings include high-temperature process equipment, automotive fuel systems, and aerospace.
