This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-231 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A measuring an inside diameter of 2.609 in (66.27 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 2.887 in (73.33 mm), catalogued under part number SV70231. It provides an economical lathe-cut alternative where a moulded o-ring is not required.

It resists petroleum oils and fuels, chlorinated solvents, and aggressive chemicals. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) is known for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and outstanding high-temperature capability. The material carries a published service range of -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where ketones and esters or amines are present. The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
