568-247 FKM 75 SQUARE CUT RINGS

Ordered as SV70247, this is an AS568-247 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 4.609 in (117.07 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 4.887 in (124.13 mm). The square-cut ring resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and very low compression set at elevated temperature. It resists aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, and aggressive chemicals. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). Applications involving amines or hot water and steam call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
