APG stocks the SV70248, an AS568-248 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring with an inside diameter of 4.734 in (120.24 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 5.012 in (127.3 mm). A square-cut ring resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.
As a material, Viton® (FKM) offers the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit and very low compression set at elevated temperature. Expect good resistance to aggressive chemicals, engine and transmission fluids, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
You will find this material specified across semiconductor equipment, high-temperature process equipment, and oil and gas.
Order part number SV70248, sold individually. Nominal inside diameter is listed as 4 3/4 inch. As always, verify media compatibility and operating conditions against the requirements of your specific application.
