This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-266 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A with an inside diameter of 7.984 in (202.79 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 8.262 in (209.85 mm), catalogued under part number SV70266. It resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.

The compound resists many acids, aggressive chemicals, and engine and transmission fluids. Viton® (FKM) delivers excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). Exposure to low-molecular-weight organic acids or amines will shorten service life. The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.

Typical settings include oil and gas, chemical processing, and automotive fuel systems.
