This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-274 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A supplied with an inside diameter of 9.984 in (253.59 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 10.262 in (260.65 mm), catalogued under part number SH70274. It provides an economical lathe-cut alternative where a moulded o-ring is not required.

Buna-N (Nitrile) is valued for reliable performance in both static and dynamic service, low compression set under sustained load. It resists greases and lubricants, propane and butane, and many alcohols. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C). It is not the right choice where automotive brake fluid or ketones are present. The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
