This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-278 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A built to an inside diameter of 11.984 in (304.39 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 12.262 in (311.45 mm), catalogued under part number SV70278. It offers greater contact area against the gland wall than an equivalent o-ring.

The compound resists petroleum oils and fuels, chlorinated solvents, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Viton® (FKM) is known for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit. Service temperature is rated from -15°F (-26.1°C) through 400°F (204.4°C). Exposure to low-molecular-weight organic acids or ketones and esters will shorten service life. The profile itself contributes a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove and a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
