568-280 FKM 75 SQUARE CUT RINGS

APG stocks the SV70280, an AS568-280 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring with an inside diameter of 13.984 in (355.19 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 14.262 in (362.25 mm). A square-cut ring seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for very low compression set at elevated temperature, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. The compound resists aromatic hydrocarbons, petroleum oils and fuels, and engine and transmission fluids. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. Applications involving ketones and esters or amines call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
