Ordered as SV70282, this is an AS568-282 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 15.955 in (405.26 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 16.233 in (412.32 mm). The square-cut ring presents a flat rectangular section that cannot roll or twist in its groove, making it a dependable static seal.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) delivers very low compression set at elevated temperature, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. The compound resists petroleum oils and fuels, many acids, and chlorinated solvents. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where amines or low-molecular-weight organic acids are present. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
