Part number SV70283 is an AS568-283 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring built to an inside diameter of 16.955 in (430.66 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 17.233 in (437.72 mm). A square-cut ring seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for outstanding high-temperature capability, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. It resists many acids, engine and transmission fluids, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where low-molecular-weight organic acids or ketones and esters are present. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
