Ordered as SH70310, this is an AS568-310 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring measuring an inside diameter of 0.475 in (12.07 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.895 in (22.73 mm). The square-cut ring offers greater contact area against the gland wall than an equivalent o-ring.

Expect good resistance to petroleum-based oils, propane and butane, and greases and lubricants. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is widely chosen for reliable performance in both static and dynamic service, the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving strong acids or ozone and direct sunlight call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
