This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-310 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A with an inside diameter of 0.475 in (12.07 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.895 in (22.73 mm), catalogued under part number SV70310. It seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

The compound resists engine and transmission fluids, many acids, and petroleum oils and fuels. Viton® (FKM) is valued for excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. The material carries a published service range of -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where amines or ketones and esters are present. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
