This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-318 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A supplied with an inside diameter of 0.975 in (24.77 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.395 in (35.43 mm), catalogued under part number SV70318. It presents a flat rectangular section that cannot roll or twist in its groove, making it a dependable static seal.

It resists petroleum oils and fuels, engine and transmission fluids, and aromatic hydrocarbons. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) is specified for outstanding high-temperature capability and the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit. Continuous operating temperature is published at -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where amines or hot water and steam are present. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.

Typical settings include chemical processing, semiconductor equipment, and automotive fuel systems.
