568-383 FKM 75 SQUARE CUT RINGS

Ordered as SV70383, this is an AS568-383 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring built to an inside diameter of 13.975 in (354.97 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 14.395 in (365.63 mm). The square-cut ring seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. Expect good resistance to chlorinated solvents, aromatic hydrocarbons, and many acids. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. It is not the right choice where hot water and steam or ketones and esters are present. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
