568-436 BUNA 70 SQUARE CUT RINGS

SH70436 is an AS568-436 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring built to an inside diameter of 5.85 in (148.59 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 6.4 in (162.56 mm). In service, this square-cut ring offers greater contact area against the gland wall than an equivalent o-ring.

As a material, Buna-N (Nitrile) is valued for the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer, strong abrasion and tear resistance. Expect good resistance to many alcohols, hydraulic fluids, and greases and lubricants. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving automotive brake fluid or ketones call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
