This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-452 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A supplied with an inside diameter of 11.475 in (291.47 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 12.025 in (305.44 mm), catalogued under part number SH70452. It provides an economical lathe-cut alternative where a moulded o-ring is not required.

The material holds up against propane and butane, greases and lubricants, and water. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is valued for reliable performance in both static and dynamic service, strong abrasion and tear resistance. Rated temperature range runs from -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C) in continuous service. It should not be specified for service in automotive brake fluid or ozone and direct sunlight. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
