Part number SH70455 is an AS568-455 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring with an inside diameter of 12.975 in (329.57 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 13.525 in (343.54 mm). A square-cut ring provides an economical lathe-cut alternative where a moulded o-ring is not required.

As a material, Buna-N (Nitrile) is known for reliable performance in both static and dynamic service, the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. The material holds up against petroleum-based oils, propane and butane, and water. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving automotive brake fluid or polar solvents call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
