Ordered as SV70465, this is an AS568-465 black Viton® (FKM) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring with an inside diameter of 17.955 in (456.06 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 18.505 in (470.03 mm). The square-cut ring resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.

The material holds up against aromatic hydrocarbons, petroleum oils and fuels, and chlorinated solvents. Viton® (FKM) delivers the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit and very low compression set at elevated temperature. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. Applications involving hot water and steam or ketones and esters call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
