568-918 BUNA 70 SQUARE CUT RINGS

This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-918 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A with an inside diameter of 1.355 in (34.42 mm), a cross section of 0.116 in (2.95 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.587 in (40.31 mm), catalogued under part number SH70918. It seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

Buna-N (Nitrile) is known for the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer, strong abrasion and tear resistance. Expect good resistance to water, propane and butane, and greases and lubricants. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C). The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
