HQ4174 is an AS568-174 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Quad-Ring measuring an inside diameter of 8.737 in (221.92 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 8.943 in (227.15 mm). In service, this quad-ring seats in a standard o-ring gland while offering improved dynamic performance.

It resists propane and butane, many alcohols, and greases and lubricants. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is widely chosen for the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer and an economical choice for high-volume maintenance programs. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C). The profile itself contributes a parting line located away from the sealing surface and two sealing bands per contact face rather than one.
