The HQ4242 is an AS568-242 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A quad profile Quad-Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 3.984 in (101.19 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 4.262 in (108.25 mm). This quad-ring resists spiral failure in reciprocating service thanks to its multi-lobe geometry.

The compound resists propane and butane, petroleum-based oils, and hydraulic fluids. Buna-N (Nitrile) is specified for strong abrasion and tear resistance, reliable performance in both static and dynamic service. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C). Exposure to polar solvents or ozone and direct sunlight will shorten service life.
