HQ4448 is an AS568-448 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Quad-Ring built to an inside diameter of 9.475 in (240.67 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 10.025 in (254.64 mm). In service, this quad-ring resists spiral failure in reciprocating service thanks to its multi-lobe geometry.

The compound resists water, greases and lubricants, and propane and butane. Buna-N (Nitrile) is widely chosen for strong abrasion and tear resistance, the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C). Exposure to automotive brake fluid or polar solvents will shorten service life. The profile itself contributes lower compressive load required to achieve a seal and two sealing bands per contact face rather than one.
