Ordered as SH70117, this is an AS568-117 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring measuring an inside diameter of 0.799 in (20.29 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.005 in (25.53 mm). The square-cut ring provides an economical lathe-cut alternative where a moulded o-ring is not required.

This material stands up to many alcohols, hydraulic fluids, and propane and butane. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is specified for strong abrasion and tear resistance, the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Exposure to polar solvents or ozone and direct sunlight will shorten service life. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
