568-120 BUNA 70 SQUARE CUT RINGS

SH70120 is an AS568-120 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 0.987 in (25.07 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.193 in (30.3 mm). In service, this square-cut ring seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

The material holds up against greases and lubricants, propane and butane, and petroleum-based oils. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) offers reliable performance in both static and dynamic service, the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. Rated temperature range runs from -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C) in continuous service. Applications involving polar solvents or automotive brake fluid call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes a flat contact band that spreads sealing load across a wider area and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
