568-132 BUNA 70 SQUARE CUT RINGS

Ordered as SH70132, this is an AS568-132 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 1.737 in (44.12 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.943 in (49.35 mm). The square-cut ring seals with a broad flat contact band instead of the line contact of a round-section ring.

This material stands up to petroleum-based oils, propane and butane, and many alcohols. Buna-N (Nitrile) offers strong abrasion and tear resistance, the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving ozone and direct sunlight or automotive brake fluid call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost and greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
