The H4X225 is a black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A O-Ring built to an inside diameter of 225 mm (8.858 in), a cross section of 4 mm (0.157 in), and an outside diameter of 233 mm (9.17 in). This o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

The material holds up against water, propane and butane, and many alcohols. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is valued for low compression set under sustained load, strong abrasion and tear resistance. Continuous operating temperature is published at -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving polar solvents or strong acids call for a different compound.
