This square-cut ring is supplied in AS568-266 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A supplied with an inside diameter of 7.984 in (202.79 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 8.262 in (209.85 mm), catalogued under part number SH70266. It provides an economical lathe-cut alternative where a moulded o-ring is not required.

It resists water, greases and lubricants, and petroleum-based oils. Buna-N (Nitrile) is widely chosen for low compression set under sustained load, reliable performance in both static and dynamic service. Rated temperature range runs from -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C) in continuous service. It should not be specified for service in strong acids or ozone and direct sunlight. The profile itself contributes a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove and simple lathe-cut manufacture at low tooling cost. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
