The SH70361 is an AS568-361 black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A Square-Cut Ring measuring an inside diameter of 5.975 in (151.77 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 6.395 in (162.43 mm). This square-cut ring resists the spiral failure that affects round rings on long reciprocating strokes.

It resists greases and lubricants, propane and butane, and many alcohols. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is valued for reliable performance in both static and dynamic service, low compression set under sustained load. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving ozone and direct sunlight or automotive brake fluid call for a different compound. The profile itself contributes greater resistance to extrusion than a round section of the same size and a rectangular section that will not roll in the groove. Note that a square section is less suited to high-speed rotary service, where the larger contact area raises friction and heat.
