The TFE278 is an AS568-278 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D O-Ring with an inside diameter of 11.984 in (304.39 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 12.262 in (311.45 mm). This o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is known for near-universal chemical inertness and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Expect good resistance to strong acids and bases, nearly all industrial chemicals, and steam. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.

Typical settings include laboratory equipment, food and beverage, and aggressive-media pipelines.
