Expect good resistance to aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, and engine and transmission fluids. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) offers the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. Continuous operating temperature is published at -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It should not be specified for service in ketones and esters or amines. The profile itself contributes resistance to the spiral twisting that defeats round-section rings and two sealing bands per contact face rather than one.
