A quad-ring delivers lower friction and better sealing stability than a comparable round-section o-ring.

The material holds up against water, many alcohols, and petroleum-based oils. Buna-N (Nitrile) offers the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer, strong abrasion and tear resistance. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Exposure to strong acids or polar solvents will shorten service life.
