A quad-ring delivers lower friction and better sealing stability than a comparable round-section o-ring.

This material stands up to petroleum-based oils, hydraulic fluids, and greases and lubricants. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) is known for low compression set under sustained load and the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). It is not the right choice where strong acids or polar solvents are present. The profile itself contributes lower compressive load required to achieve a seal and two sealing bands per contact face rather than one.
