It resists spiral failure in reciprocating service thanks to its multi-lobe geometry.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) delivers long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and very low compression set at elevated temperature. The compound resists petroleum oils and fuels, chlorinated solvents, and many acids. The material carries a published service range of -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It should not be specified for service in low-molecular-weight organic acids or amines.
