A quad-ring resists spiral failure in reciprocating service thanks to its multi-lobe geometry.

This material stands up to engine and transmission fluids, petroleum oils and fuels, and aromatic hydrocarbons. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) is specified for very low compression set at elevated temperature and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. It is not the right choice where hot water and steam or amines are present.
