As a material, Viton® (FKM) delivers excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit. It resists engine and transmission fluids, chlorinated solvents, and many acids. The material carries a published service range of -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It should not be specified for service in ketones and esters or amines. The profile itself contributes resistance to the spiral twisting that defeats round-section rings and two sealing bands per contact face rather than one.
